We actually get the term “Viking“ from the Norse and Scandinavian languages, and it referred to the Norse explorers, merchants, warriors and even their pirates.  Unfortunately, many peopl only remember the pirates – infamous for their raiding, pillaging and terrorizing the surrounding countries and territories in which they invaded.

The Vikings were famous for their means of travel – the longships.  With these ships, they were able to travel as far away as Turkey, Greenland, Iceland, Newfoundland and even as far south as Iberian Peninsula.

Today, the images of fierce Vikings still abounds.  In the United States, they even named one of their professional football teams after them, the Minnesota Vikings!  So grab your favorite Viking outfit and have some fun this Halloween or Costume Party!
